F-stop is all about the size of the lens aperture and how that opening controls exposure, not a direct measure of the actual light falling on the subject. The f-number describes how wide the aperture is relative to the focal length, with smaller numbers meaning a larger opening that lets in more light and larger numbers meaning a smaller opening that lets in less. This aperture setting interacts with shutter speed and ISO to produce the final exposure, and it also influences depth of field. However, the real amount of light hitting the subject depends on the lighting power, distance, modifiers, and other scene factors—f-stop itself does not measure that light. Color temperature, determined by the light source and white balance, and luminance, a photometric measure of brightness, are separate concepts from this camera aperture setting.
